Guernsey Cliffs
Guernsey Cliffs
The Guernsey Autumn Walking Festival returns from September 14th – 19th offering Yorkshire visitors a choice of challenging clifftop walks, gentle inland rambles and coastal strolls whilst showcasing the best of Alderney, Sark and Guernsey itself.

Organised by the Bailiwick of Guernsey Guild of Accredited Guides, the walks provide the opportunity to learn from local experts about the islands’ colourful history and local flora and fauna.

Prices start from £5 per person per walk and are led by Guernsey’s gold and silver accredited guides, each extremely knowledgeable in their area and with a different set of expertise.

Sample walks include:

In Juliet’s Footsteps

14 September, 9.45am – 12.45pm

In the wake of the success of the bestselling book and international film ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’ this tour will explore the places on the island that inspired the novel and that were discovered by its protagonist Juliet Ashton, played by Lily James in the film.

Nationally Blooming Sark

15 September, 11.00am-4.30pm (taking the 10.00am boat from Guernsey)

Led by horticulturist Malcolm Cleal, this walk offers the chance to see some of the highlights of Sark’s gold standard floral entry in the 2019 National Britain in Bloom competition and is organised in collaboration with the Sark Community Blooms floral group. The island of Sark is a 50-minute ferry ride from Guernsey’s St Peter Port with the Isle of Sark Shipping Company. An adult day return ticket costs £29.50.

Walking in the Footsteps of Renoir and Victor Hugo

17 September, 2pm – 4pm

This walk covers the spots that two of Guernsey’s most famous ‘residents’ loved. French impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir spent over a month in Guernsey in summer 1883, during which time he was so captivated by the beautifully tranquil Moulin Huet Bay on the south coast that he painted no fewer than 15 pictures. Victor Hugo was exiled on Guernsey and wrote his most famous work Les Misérables from his clifftop home from where he could see the coast of France on a clear day. This walk will take in haunts of both Renoir and Hugo whilst sharing some of the details of their time on Guernsey.

Pre-booking is advised to guarantee a place. For more information on accredited guides and individual walks please visit www.guernseyguidedtours.com.
