Here’s How Junction 32 Outlet Is Supporting The Needs Of Its Disabled Shoppers This Purple Tuesday

Purple Tuesday, the UK’s accessible shopping day, is taking place on 3rd November. This year, Junction 32 is highlighting the measures currently in place to raise awareness of the needs of disabled customers.

Nearly one in five people in the UK have a disability or impairment, and there are very real (and perceived) barriers that make it harder to find work, spend money in store or online, and enjoy a drink or a meal out.

Committed to making sure that all visitors feel welcome and have the best experience possible, Junction 32 has implemented the following measures all year round:

Quiet Mornings every Tuesday 10am-12pm
A quiet room which has sensory toys and ear defenders for children and adults with Autism to use
An accessible toilet
Hidden Disability Lanyards available upon request
Ability to change font, colour, text size and language on the Junction 32 website
Free wheelchair hire
Call assistance numbers on disabled bays

This year Junction 32 will also be taking part in Purple Tuesday by lighting up the Centre purple, displaying the #Thumbsup for #PurpleTuesday posters around the Centre and all staff will be taught basic greeting in British Sign Language. Several Brand Partners will also be getting involved by wearing purple face masks and the Hidden Disability Lanyards to raise awareness.

Landsec has taken part in Purple Tuesday since its inception, and last year many of its retail assets including Junction 32 promoted inclusive shopping with a purple theme in their lighting as well as promotional items for customers, such as purple lanyards, flyers and T-shirts.

Kerry Moxon, Community Champion said:
“We are committed to making sure that all visitors to Junction 32 are able to have a positive and enjoyable experience. As such, we are really pleased to be involved with Purple Tuesday once more. We are constantly working to ensure that shopping at Junction 32 is an inclusive experience for all and hope that our measures will raise awareness of the challenges that disabled customers can face.”

Since reopening, Junction 32 has introduced a number of safety measures to keep shoppers safe including hand sanitiser points throughout the centre, a two way system to ensure social distancing can be maintained and signs to remind guests to keep the required distance apart and a queuing system for entry to the centre.
