Huddersfield Giants Star Amelia Brown Is Looking To The Future After England Women's Debut

Huddersfield Giants Women’s Amelia Brown is looking ahead to the 2025 Las Vegas Women’s International, which will be one of four matches played at the Allegiant Stadium.

England women will face the Jillaroos (Australian women) in a women’s international, which will be played alongside two NRL fixtures as well as a Super League men’s fixture.

On the upcoming international against the Jillaroos, 20-year-old Brown said: “With Vegas, it would be amazing to be in the squad, but I know between now and then there’s a lot of hard work to be put in.”

“There’s a lot of great competition for shirts, but I’m going to do everything that I can to put myself in the best position for selection because that would be a great experience.”

Brown has made her way up through the England setup, as she was promoted from the England women's knights at the beginning of 2024 after an impressive season with the Giants.

During the match against Wales, Brown crossed over for a second half hat trick as England women scored 16 tries to accumulate their highest ever score of 82, beating their previous best by 10 points.

On her try-scoring debut for England, Yorkshire’s Origin star Brown said: “It was really special to have been able to put on the England shirt, especially being alongside some of the best players in the league.”

“It was great to be able to make my family and my friends proud, and also being the first player from the Giants to debut made it more of an achievement.”

Brown’s debut made her one of the seven England women’s international representatives to have progressed through the England Women Rugby League Performance Pathway.

She was part of the third cohort of the DiSE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) program and was joined by fellow DiSE alumni Erin Stott in making her full international debut.

On the program, 2021 DiSE cohort member Brown said: “The DiSE programme is a great way to expose young players to a professional environment and provide a platform for them to be seen and learn from the coaches that are in the senior England setup.”

“I’m grateful to have been a part of the DiSE programme and to have progressed from there into the Knights and then into the first team.”

Brown’s England women’s debut also made history as she became the first Huddersfield Giant to play in a full England women’s international.

She played fullback for England women on 2nd November as they defeated Wales to win their fourth straight international by an aggregate score of 248-0.

On her history-making debut, 2023 BWSL Young Player of the Year nominee Brown said, "We’d come off the back of a tough season, but I was shocked because I didn’t think I’d make selection, but when I did, it just shows that you don’t need to be in the top and be winning all your games to be recognised.”

People at Giants look up to me, and they are able to see that I can do it, so any of them can do it as well.

Alongside making her England debut, Brown also enjoyed individual successes during the 2024 Women’s Super League season as she crossed for 13 tries during the Giants’ campaign.

She is now looking forward to the upcoming 2025 season, for which she and the rest of the Huddersfield Giants women’s squad have started preseason.

On the upcoming 2025 season, former winger Brown said, "With the Giants, I think that after the last season we’ve kind of reset and pre-season is just starting.”

We’ve got a great group of girls that have the same aspirations and goals as each other, and I’m feeling good about going forward into the 2025 season.”

Amelia Brown and the rest of her Giants teammates are now getting ready for the 2025 Women’s Super League season, with the fixtures being released in early December.

Whilst she and her England teammates will be preparing for their match in Las Vegas against the Jillaroos, which will take place on the 1st–2nd March 2025 (BST).
