Ilkley Business Steps Up to The Plate
When the news came through on 20 March that The Little Teahouse in Ilkley was not allowed to open until further notice due to coronavirus this came as a shock to Claire Hundsdoerfer, owner of The Little Teahouse, and her team.
Immediate action was taken and all the cakes and afternoon tea treats that had been lovingly-baked for Mother’s Day weekend were displayed for sale at The Little Teahouse and customers were invited to come and buy the remaining stock to takeaway.
What now? Deep clean the kitchens, lock and bolt the door and ride out the storm? No!
The Little Teahouse has a very loyal following and it didn’t want to walk away from its customers. Claire knew that to help it survive and thrive, The Little Teahouse would have to adapt and at pace. Claire reached out to her customers through word of mouth and social media and asked them how she could continue to help them.
It was decided that a new delivery service would be the best way forward, Claire started by baking and delivering cream scones, these immediately proved popular and now an extensive take-away menu is posted out each week and doorstep deliveries made every Saturday within LS29.
The latest addition is an “Afternoon Tea in a Box” so the customer can continue to enjoy all the flavours of an afternoon tea from The Little Teahouse in the comfort of their own home.
“We’re used to being hands-on; used to over-coming issues, I wanted to continue to help our customers and to provide delicious treats during this difficult time in lock down. We’ve had so much support it has been really over-whelming; delivery might well be a long term change that continues to aid business growth, long after this crisis is over”.
The next plan for the Little Teahouse is to run a themed Afternoon Tea to mark VE Day on 8 May.
