International Day Of Happiness
Jan Harris, Assistant Editor
Did you know that today (20 March) is United Nations International Day of Happiness?
For 2019 the theme of the day is 'Happier Together'. So being part of this special day we should focus on community and celebrate what we have in common rather than what divides us. It was celebrated for the first time in 2013.
Life is so much better when we're together with friends and family as everyone wants to be happy and together we're happier.

Some members and friends meet up regularly to socialise and build relationships with one another to go walking in our lovely Yorkshire countryside.
Other members also meet up monthly either during the day or in the evening to sample the food at various restaurants/cafes/pubs in and around Yorkshire. These are wonderful social occasions getting to know each other better and what better way than round the meal table.
One such occasion was yesterday when fourteen ladies met in Hetties in Skipton for lunch. A lovely time was being enjoyed when Charles Heslett from BBC Radio Leeds decided to drop in and tell us about the International Day of Happiness. None of us knew about the day.
Charles interviewed a couple of our ladies including our President Enid Turnock and wanted to know what was so special about Skipton and what makes us happy, because he had heard that Skipton had been voted one of the happiest places to live.
Comments were made that Skipton is a very friendly place to live, the people are friendly and with the wonderful countryside around us what was not to make us 'happy'.
The definition of Happiness:
Happiness can be either feeling or showing, meaning that happiness is not necessarily an internal or external experience, but can be both.
