Italy Beckons Yorkshire Art Lovers To Celebrate Leonardo Anniversary
Florence
Yorkshire art lovers have a unique opportunity to sample the sophistication of Italy next month whilst marking the 500th anniversary of the death of the country’s great maestro, Leonardo da Vince.

A special programme of exhibitions are taking place across Italy in May as Italians pay homage to one of their great sons.

And Sardatur Holidays has created a special Leonardo 500 Italy package flying out of Manchester and London Heathrow. The seven-day trip takes in three of the most important cities for fans of the Renaissance master - Florence, Venice and Milan.

The first is Florence where Leonardo studied as an apprentice of the artist Andrea del Verrocchio. One of its foremost galleries, the Uffizi, is home to his famous unfinished Adoration of the Magi, plus two early works. The Museo Galileo is holding a special exhibition this year: Leonardo da Vinci: Visions. Technological challenges of the Universal Genius. And the Palazzo Strozzi will unveil a retrospective (March to July) showcasing 120 paintings, sculptures and drawings devoted to the Renaissance maestro Andrea del Verrocchio, and work from Leonardo and other pupils.

Da Vinci visited Venice from 1499 to 1500. His famous work, The Vitruvian Man, will be on public display in 2019 for the first time in years at the Gallerie dell’Accademia, along with 24 other works.

Milan
Leonardo lived and worked in Milan for seventeen years and the city’s Santa Maria delle Grazie convent is home to one of da Vinci’s most famous works, The Last Supper. Sforza Castle’s Sala delle Asse, decorated by da Vinci, will re-open on the anniversary date of 2nd May after six years restoration. The Leonardo3 Museum is holding a special World of Leonardo exhibition, showing working models of his machines such as the submarine, time machine and rapid-fire cross bow. Other sites include Leonardo’s vineyard, given to him by his patron the Duke of Milan, and the world’s largest statue of Leonardo outside La Scala opera house.

Sardatur Holidays ‘Leonardo 500’ seven-night package starts from £1,550 per person, including British Airways flights from Manchester to Pisa and Milan return. Accommodation comprises three nights in Florence, two nights in Venice and two nights in Milan at four star hotels on a bed and breakfast basis. The package includes one Da Vinci-themed tour in each city: a private tour of The Accademia and Uffizi in Florence, entrance to the Leonardo da Vinci Museum in Venice, and The Truth About Leonardo da Vinci tour in Milan.
