Professional vacancies are down 1% since this time last year across Leeds and Yorkshire & the Humber. That is according to new research from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo), the trade body representing the recruitment sector.

The data, provided by recruitment software company, Innovantage, which analyses monthly hiring trends in the UK, also reveals that job growth is down across all of the regions in the country. This news comes as the British Chambers of Commerce released its latest economic forecast, which shows that growth expectations for the UK in 2019 is down to 1.2% (from 1.3%) and to 0.8% (from 1.0%) for 2020.

Commenting on the data, Moya Rylands, director at APSCo said: “While it’s a shame that job growth in Leeds has stalled, I am confident that it will bounce back once some much needed clarity on Brexit is found. However, regardless of the overall dip in hiring, we must not forget that there are still several pockets of positivity. For example, the legal sector is thriving, with vacancies up by 10%.”
