Keane - Cause And Effect (Island Records)

After a lengthy break Keane are back. Their songs were always melodic and things have not changed for the Sussex group. The songs are still jaunty and uplifting though the lyrical content might be of a sad nature.

Things though did not turn out too well for the band, lead singer Tom Chaplin sank into drugs though he has since cleaned up his act, lost weight and released two solo albums with a tour that even visited the City Varieties in Leeds a few years ago.

The main songwriter in the group Tim Rice-Oxley suffered depression caused by the failure of his marriage, which gives the reunited band plenty of emotional themes to explore.

The Way I Feel revisits the depression that Rice-Oxley went through whilst Strange Room is actually about the prison cell he was kept in while he was charged for a drink driving issue 4 years ago.

It is an album of mature pop/rock. If you like Maroon 5 or liked Keane before then chances are you will enjoy this album.

Whilst their debut album Hopes and Fears in 2004 might now sound all innocent and youthful this is an album that sees the band 15 years on - the content might be brooding but the music still lifts you up.

I rate the album 4 out of 5
