Leeds law firm Shulmans has acted on behalf of BDO Events Limited to manage all the licensing rights and contracts for the inaugural BDO Daily Mirror World Trophy darts tournament.

The televised tournament was open to amateurs and professionals and saw over 300 men and women battle it out for a £115,000 prize fund, with James 'Jammie Dodger' Wilson and Anastasia Dobromyslova being crowned World Champions on Sunday 9th February.

The intellectual property and branding team led by associate Rob Lucas, handled all the legal work involved in the tournament.

Rob Lucas, who has previously worked with a variety of sporting clients including Premier League and international football players and clubs, said:

"We have been working with Scott and the team for nine months on the legal framework behind the tournament. It has been a really interesting event to be involved with and we're delighted the inaugural tournament has been such a success."

Scott Newhouse, managing director at BDO said:

"With a first event of this nature there is always a lot of legwork to be done in terms of developing contracts and the rights involved. It's vital this is all undertaken with the utmost care and attention to detail to ensure everything is properly considered. Having worked with Rob and the team before, I knew their experience would be ideal to help us make the tournament the great event it has been."
