Living On The Veg At Zizzi

It is rumoured that over a quarter of a million people are taking part in Veganuary this year.

Zizzi have taken note of this and as part of their new Winter Warmers menu there are plenty of dishes that are vegetarian or vegan. That's not to say that there are not any meat options on the new menu - there are and the other good news is that the 3 course menu is only £19.95 with if you like, your first glass of house Prosecco for £2.00.

Garlic Bread

For starters the Garlic Bread with Mozzarella comes with caramelised balsamic onions which is for vegetarians. My sister found the bread hot, freshly cooked with the caramelised onions adding an extra bite. You can also choose from Bufala Caprese, Vegan Beetball Polpette or Bruschetta.

For mains the new Vegan Jackfruit Italian Hot Pizza comes with vegan jackfruit pepperoni, spicy harissa, roquito chillis and vegan mozzarisella cheese finished with basil.

Rustica Primavera Pizza

My sister chose the Rustica Primavera Pizza and she swapped goats cheese for mushrooms. The mixture of artichokes, spinach, fire roasted peppers, Mozzarella, smokey tomatoes, super green pesto and rocket was a winning combination.

Rustica Smoky Chorizo Pizza

You could opt for Vegan Pumpkin and Sage Tortellini if you wished.

If you are a meat eater I can recommend the new Rustica Smoky Chorizo Pizza, though I would have found it rather bland without the spicy chicken I added as extra. It just needed that extra bite. The Chorizo salami needed something to complement it - like the spicy chicken. The torn wild boar meatballs, smoked mozzarella and the chilli threads and riserva cheese meat were hot so you needed a large glass of water by your side.

Passion Fruit Cheesecake

The desserts on the three course menu are all suitable for vegetarians. The Passion Fruit Cheesecake had a zing with a very creamy taste. The rather indulgent Honeycomb Cheesecake might be another option.

I tried the new Golden Millionaires Slice which I found a little too rich. If you like chocolate though, as most Italians seem to indulge in chocolate a lot, you will feel as if you are back in Italy.

At £19.95 though the Winter Warmers menu is excellent value for vegans, vegetarians and dare I say meat lovers and the good news is that the menu runs until March.
