Match Report: York Futsal v Birmingham Tigers

York Futsal continued their excellent form on Sunday with a dominant display against Birmingham Tigers coming out 16-0 winners.

The difference in experience and York’s superior tactical knowledge was plain for all to see with the home team creating many chances and goals.

The first goal came after 2 minutes from Blackburn after some good pressing from the home side.

This was followed on 4 minutes from a corner by a ferocious strike from Fabinho into the top right hand corner of the net.

Birmingham sat deep and looked to counter attack York, but struggled to get out of their half.

Blackburn taking advantage of this intercepted a pass and played in Eduardo to tap in York’s third on 9 minutes.

Excellent combination play from a corner by Fabinho and Eduardo resulted in York’s fourth which was followed by two more, an individual effort from Da Silva and a close range effort from Pedras.

Birmingham almost made the score sheet as the half drew to a close after a bad pass was intercepted only to find Mortlock recovering brilliantly and restarting York’s attack with a pass to Donoso who smashed the ball into the Birmingham net off the post to take the score line to 7-0 at the break.

Birmingham regrouped in the opening stages of the second half and employed a more direct route to goal in an attempt to get back into the game, but York quickly adapted and the pattern of the first 20 minutes began to repeat itself.

Well worked close range efforts were added to the tally from Da Silva, Blackburn, and Pedras before a set piece from a corner was executed perfectly by Donoso after Birmingham had had a man sent off for a second yellow card.

Once back to full strength Birmingham battled on gamely, but as fatigue set in it was only a matter of time before more goals were scored by York with Eduardo, Ceesay, Fabinho, Donoso adding to the tally with Fabinho’s effort being the pick of the bunch from a superb counter attack with Mortlock and Pedras, after Batha had made a point blank save in the York net.

Ben Mortlock rounded of proceedings with the final goal of the game much to the crowd’s delight.

Head Coach Junior Roberti had this to say:
‘We played very well today, and the score line reflects that, but it will not always be this way so we must not get complacent. To see our graduates getting more court time and gaining in experience was a real highlight today, and shows the hard work in training paying off for all of our players. We must continue to keep our standards high and be ready for our next game against Liverpool away.’

York Futsal’s next home game is on 24th November at the York Sport Arena – Kick off 4:45pm.
