Arriving on home soil for the first time since December 20th, Chris Bolder and his band of Villagers found resolve in claiming a fourth straight league victory at the Dransfield Stadium.

As expected, another tensely contested fixture ensued that saw Sam Aynsley star and score twice to ensure the Villagers claimed their seventh home victory of the campaign.

Ferriby won the early battles as Lewis Dennison almost scored from the opening chance of the half, whilst Tom Corner rattled the woodwork on ten minutes.

Despite a decent start, it was Sheffield that opened the scoring after Josh Ayres’ free header rippled the back of Ben Bottomley’s net. With the half descending, Ferriby probed to find a way back in, but to no avail.

With minutes remaining until the break, something had to give and in one swift North Ferriby attack, the game was level after Sam Aynsley collected twenty yards out, firing a tidy shot into the bottom corner.

A new half of football, and a similar dogged tie ensued. More goals were to come despite a tense affair, and Sheffield obliged after the visitors caught Ferriby on the counter, with Josh Ayres sealing the move.

The game wasn’t to end there and approaching the hour Ferriby were awarded a penalty after seeing Lewis Dennison being brought down. Up stepped Kieron Ceesay who slotted home his fourth goal in a Villagers shirt.

A hard-fought final quarter came about as the worlds oldest football club looked to hang on for the draw, and with nothing seemingly working for the Villager’s, a draw was looking likely.

Deep into added time, and one final attack for the hosts came through Sam Aynsley, who collected the ball on the right-hand byline, cutting in to fire home the winning goal into the far left bottom corner.

Seeing today’s results complete, the Villagers remain in fifth place in the league standings and now turn their attentions to their Senior Cup tie with Hedon Rangers midweek.
