Pizza Express Launch New Summer Menu

Hopefully the summer will be good to us again this year. Thankfully Pizza Express have launched a new summer menu which includes some light, tempting variations that fit in far better with July or August than dreary November!

For starters the new Pea, Broad Bean and Mint Arancini is something I have yet to see on a menu when visiting Italy, but the pea, broad bean, mint and risotto balls coated in golden breadcrumbs are very 'moreish'. The combination of mint and pea goes together well and compliment each other. Priced at £6.40 they are ideal for sharing.

If you fancy something different the Garlic King Prawns priced at £6.75 come with Dough Balls.

If you are watching your figure you can now have your pizza without feeling guilty as the Leggera base has just been introduced for summer. At under 600 calories the Leggera pizzas are served on a classic sized ring of wholemeal, white and spelt dough with a hole in the middle filled with a fresh dressed salad.

I tried the Leggera base on the Barbacoa pizza: smoky, spicy full flavoured pulled Barbacoa Beef, very spicy chipotle salsa, garlic oil, mozzarella and tomato finished off with red onion and fresh coriander, for me the pizza was very hot. I can understand how they keep the calories down when they put a hole in the Leggera pizza, you can't put weight on with an empty hole!

My partner chose the new Roasted Veg and Ricotta pizza priced at £14.40 which sounds a lot to pay for a pizza, but when I saw the size of it, I wish that perhaps I should have made a better decision. With roasted pepper, courgette and aubergine with tomato, Basil, mozzarella, creamy Ricotta and garlic oil, finished with slow roasted tomatoes and shaved Gran Milano it sounds like a feast - and it is, apparently every mouthful tasted excellent, you could taste everything.

The dessert menu has the new Passion Fruit and Orange Meringue Tart which my partner found a little too sweet, but my Chocolate and Amaretto Parfait was very creamy with a firm crisp base. Both priced at £6.45.

The new Mango Spritzer which is tropical Mango juice, Mary Pinot Grigio and crisp soda was very refreshing and an ideal summer drink.
