Prezzo Summer Set Menu Into September

Summer might nearly be over but at Prezzo the Summer Set Menu is set to last until at least mid September.

To say that the pizza restaurant market is crowded is a bit of an understatement - there have been casualties too - Jamie's Italian went into administration a few months ago and the remaining chains are all running promotions to get diners through the doors.

The Prezzo chain have come up with a good idea - The Summer Set Menu which I think is cracking value. £15.95 gets you 2 courses and a drink, whereas £18.95 provides 3 courses and a drink.

We visited the Leeds White Rose shopping centre restaurant on an early Thursday evening and the restaurant was practically full.

A few days earlier I had been with family to a 4 star restaurant and although the food was excellent the service was terrible - it took 20 minutes from seating to be served. Thankfully at Prezzo the service at the Leeds White Rose restaurant was excellent - friendly attentive staff who actually looked at you when taking your order. Your order is repeated back to you - none of this rushing off before you've had time to finish talking to your server. 4 star service indeed.

The set Summer menu has a range of starters from Calamari to King Prawns. My partner chose the Italian Hummus with grilled Flatbread that was said to be moreish, the hummus though came with a red sauce on top which the menu did not describe.

My Pizza Bites were a bit on the doughy side but the pizza sauce and Italian cheese inside was delicious.

The mains range from Calabrese Burger to Pesto and Pea Penne. We both decided to try the pizzas. My Vesuvio pizza with double pepperoni, roquito, chilliest and mozzarella was hotter than a summer's day in Naples! A perfect pizza that was worth the visit just to sample this hot temptation.

My partner's La Milano Pizza - an oven baked tomato base finished with burrata mozzarella, prosciutto, rocket and black olives was served with chilled toppings just as the Italians do in summer. It tasted as good as it looked and was as authentic as any of the pizzas I've seen in Italy.

A creamy Panna Cotta served in 3 pieces and a delightful Honeycomb Smash Cheesecake rounded off a sublime dining experience.

The quality of service never faltered throughout which I observed was replicated on other tables too.

A well run restaurant with food to match.
