Rugby World Cup 2023 - Bordeaux With Jubilant Irishmen

Ed Williams has been reporting for the Yorkshire Times, part of the p.ublished group of online newspapers, on his local club, Wharfedale RUFC. Today he becomes our international rugby correspondent and is in France for the Rugby World Cup 2023. Here is his second report...

A good win in the hot afternoon sun saw the streets and bars full of good Irish folk. Results went the way of the old guard with a notable Australian performance brushing aside Georgia. The Irish were happy with their performance but still full of praise for their opponents.

My lady wife and I are staying in the same hotel as the Romanian team and with my new title of 'International Rugby Correspondent', I was allowed access to their team zone for a photo opportunity.

On a personal note, we spent the day touring the sights of Bordeaux. A beautiful city, wide boulevards and pleasant gardens plus some impressive architecture.

The Welsh contingent obviously spent time in the various amazing cathedrals praying for guidance and strength in Sunday’s encounter with Fiji. I am writing this watching Ford giving Argentina a lesson in kicking!

News from the Avenue was not so good with Wharfedale losing to Rotherham with both sides scoring 3 tries but the Titans adding penalties.

How the lads are managing to play in the heat in the south of France I don’t know. It is hot enough walking around.
