The Villagers began 2025 with defeat at Debdale Park after a solitary goal denied Chris Bolder’s side a perfect start.

Missed opportunity plagued an under-par villager outfit who despite remaining seventh, are still within distance of the league playoff positions.

Battling undesirable conditions, it would be the Villagers who claimed the game’s opening opportunity; an appealing free kick at twenty yards saw Danny East fire narrowly over.

Removed from the Villagers opening salvo, the tie began to calm until a fine move from the Villagers should have seen them ahead, but Ceesay fired wide from a deft East pass.
The game soon settled into an attritional affair, with neither side able to break the other down. This almost changed in the dying moments of the first half, but Sherwood failed to take the lead after Bottomley produced another fine save.

After the break, it was a new half, yet a similar story ensued. An aurora descended that it would be one of those days for Ferriby, and as such, Sherwood were ahead after the ball was turned in by skipper, Niall Tilsley.

An attritional affair soon returned, despite the Villagers slowly applying a little more pressure on the hosts back line.

With the final fifteen minutes approaching, Ferriby were awarded a spot kick to the dismay of the home side. East stepped up, but would see his effort pushed away by Jordan Pierrpont.
From then, both looked to drive at their opposition, but no further goal would materialise.

The villagers now look to Emley at home next Saturday in another big encounter.
