A new week brings a new opportunity to enjoy seven days of sporting excellence, and this week is no different. In fact, we are spoiled for choice of action to take in from FA Cup to league action, the darts and the Super League.

So, if you need a way to keep track of just what is going on this week, look no further.

Monday 10th February: Doncaster Rovers v Crystal Palace - FA Cup, 19:45pm

The fourth round of the FA Cup continues this week, where Yorkshire could play host to a giant slaying cup-set at the Eco-Power Stadium as Premier League Palace visit Doncaster. Grant McCann’s men are currently second in League Two, but do come into this cup tie off the back of a humbling 5-2 away defeat to Chesterfield.

Prior to that disappointing result, Rovers had racked up an impressive run of five straight victories and will have already proven to be able to take the test of those in higher leagues having come through the last round against Championship side Hull City 6-5 on penalties.

Palace will no doubt prove to be a sterner test though, as the Eagles league form has seen a drastic upturn since the turn of the year. Having only suffered one loss in their last eight games, Palace have risen from relegation fearing to mid-table relaxation as things stand, as the London side find themselves 13 points clear of the drop zone in 12th.

Tuesday 11th February: Bradford City v Accrington Stanley, 19:45pm

Bradford City find themselves amongst a hotly contested League Two play-off picture, currently sitting top of the play-off group in fourth, just two points behind Doncaster in third. They look to take advantage of their game in hand on those above and creep into the automatic spots with the visit of Accrington Stanley.

The Bantams have looked to have improved exponentially from their disappointing ninth placed finish last season. Graham Alexander took the helm at the Yorkshire side in November 2023 and since then has managed to offer some stability following their two previous caretaker managers that came in after Mark Hughes’ departure.

They have crafted an excellent run of form as of late with nine victories in their previous eleven matches. Bradford have turned Valley Parade into a fortress, with the historic ground not tasting defeat since the 19th of November.

Hoping to put an end to the streak is strugglers Accrington Stanley. The Lancashire outfit have found life difficult in League Two since their relegation from the third tier two seasons ago. With long-serving managerial legend John Coleman leaving times were expected to be turbulent, but to be so far behind the pace and finding themselves in 20th position has been both unexpected and disappointing.

Stanley will need to steer away from their current performances if they are able to get a result here, with just one win in their last six, they find themselves on the wrong end of a new year slump which could shorten their seven point advantage over rivals Morecambe in the relegation zone, if they are not careful.

Wednesday 12th February: Everton v Liverpool, 19:30pm

When people talk of the historic rivalries in football, they seldom fail to mention the Merseyside derby. It remains one of the fiercest contests in English football, and this particular one is extra special with it being the last time Goodison park will host the famous match.

The famous ground has been the home of Everton for 132 years and spectators have been enjoying the drama of their cross-city rivalry there since 1894, making it the oldest top flight English derby. But after 119 meetings the anger and hostility will find a new home at Bramley- Moore dock from next season onwards.

Everton appear to be geared up to make this final encounter count, as they have looked revitalised under David Moyes since his return to the hot seat after 12 years away. Following his comeback in late January, the Toffees have registered three wins in four games which is already the same amount of league wins as the team managed since the start of this campaign.

Despite a recent 2-0 loss to Bournemouth in the FA Cup, Everton have all rights to remain in high spirits when it comes to league action as they have been steered by Scotsman Moyes away from the drop zone, with the gap to Leicester having grown to nine points.

That gap could come into some peril however as Liverpool have shown once again why they remain one of the strongest squads in Europe. New boss Arne Slot has them firing on all cylinders, with just the single loss in the league all season and having already amassed a healthy six point cushion over Arsenal in second, they look odds on favourite to win a second Premier League title. The reds also come into this one following a cup exit, this time shockingly to Championship bottom half side Plymouth, squandering any hopes of a quadruple.

The Goodison faithful will be hoping this is the early signs of a slip up and the blue side of Merseyside can triumph one last time at their iconic home.

Thursday 13th February: BetMGM Premier League - Luke Humphries v Chris Dobey, 20:40pm

Night two of the BetMGM PDC Premier League kicks off with a repeat of the final from night 1 in Belfast. This week the best of the best in darts travel across the Irish sea to Glasgow where redemption or continuation will occur. Chris Dobey is out for revenge after a 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Cool Hand Luke Humphries last week - a victory which ensured the current World number one and World Masters champion’s spot in the winner’s enclosure.

The previous meeting saw Dobey fall to a 5-0 deficit before clawing back a leg, only to be dispatched a leg later, while still leaving with a highly respectable second place in the league table, coming into this one. Dobey does have experience in beating Humphries though, as the world number 11 did come away from the Players Championship with a 6-4 win in July last year.

This may not be the outlier as it seems however, because as of now the two share eight wins over each other in sixteen matches. Meaning this could be not only a critical match for the outcome of the early picture in the Premier League, but also on a personal level.

With the memories of their last encounter fresh in the minds, it is hard to look past another victory for Cool Hand who has been getting the better of almost everyone for over a year, and who also has been undefeated so far this month. Dobey should not be underestimated though, as the 2023 World Masters Champion has been performing above expectations in his second ever permanent appearance in the Premier League.

Friday 14th February: Super League Hull KR v Castleford, 20:00pm

The Betfred Super League is finally back and the first round comes crashing into 2025 with two Yorkshire sides going toe to toe. Hull KR had a positive campaign last time out, finishing second behind the all-conquering Wigan Warriors side that look set to be favourites again.

Hull already have a victory under their belt after their 44-2 win over York Knights in the Betfred Challenge Cup, and Willie Peters’ men will be hoping for a similar result and performance as they welcome perennial strugglers Castleford Tigers to Craven Park.

Castleford already find themselves needing to bolster spirits as the Tigers fell to a disappointing 18-16 scoreline against Bradford Bulls on Sunday in the Challenge Cup. New boss Danny McGuire has much to do if he is to endear himself to the Wheldon Road faithful, especially considering his icon status at bitter rivals Leeds Rhinos.

The former England international has not started on the strongest of footing and the Tigers will need to start picking up results quick if they are to produce the feel-good factor back in West Yorkshire, and show growth from what was a similarly underwhelming season in 2024, in which they finished 10th in the Super league.
