The mid-November internationals are almost over, so before we go back to following our usual clubs on the weekend, there is time to get out there to take in some live games and support our local Yorkshire clubs and venues.

Here are a few picks that will keep you entertained this mid-week:

Tuesday 19th November: Garforth Town v Belper Town

Newly Promoted Garforth Town’s Bannister Prentice Stadium hosts current Pitching In Premier Division East high flyers Belper Town in mid-week.

The November chill will hopefully not freeze out the possibility of a fiery affair, where Garforth could potentially consolidate a respectable campaign and push for playoff contention.

Belper will be no pushovers though with seven wins and only a single loss on the road so far, they are specialists away from home. The Derbyshire club only sit behind table-topping Cleethorpes Town on goal difference, which could be good news for the neutral with a bigger incentive for some goals. That said, with ten goals in their last three matches, it seems that incentive is already there.

Garforth has the challenge of stopping the Belper scoring streak, but the division new boys have shown they are more than up for it.

Sitting pretty in 8th, Paul Marshall’s men have overachieved this campaign following last season’s dramatic promotion via the play-offs, courtesy of two penalty shoot-outs. A win for them would have the stadium bouncing and the proposition of a back-to-back play-off challenges a real possibility.

Date: 19/11/24
Time: 19:45pm

Venue: Bannister Prentice Community Stadium, Cedar Ridge, Garforth LS25 2PF

Tickets can be purchased on match day at the ground.
Adults £9, Concessions £6, U16s £3, U5s FREE
Family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) £20

Wednesday 20th November: Brighouse Town v Dunston FC

More Pitching In Northern Premier Division East action on Wednesday where struggling Brighouse face off against promotion hopefuls Dunston FC. It has not been the brightest of starts for The Brig, with a mere four wins all season leaving them in 19th spot.

On the bright side, they do have games in hand on all those beneath them which could alleviate some of the concerns coming into the late-year run-in.

They will need to navigate these games in hand though, which could come up against an immediate obstacle with the visit of Dunston FC. The Gateshead-based club heads to the Heffernan Utilities Stadium in a strong position, sitting in 6th and coming off the back of a 1-1 draw away at Bradford Park Avenue.

This all points towards a difficult afternoon for the hosts, but Dunston’s away record leaves a lot to be desired. Just two wins on the road could give Brighouse the chance to get the upset and stifle some worries heading into the weekend.

Date: 20/11/24
Time: 19.45pm

Venue: Heffernan Utilities Stadium, St Giles Rd, Hove Edge, Brighouse, Halifax, HD6 2PL

Tickets can be purchased at the ground on the day
Adult £10, Concessions £7, 12-16 £2, U12s Free

Friday 22nd November: Start of the jumps at Catterick Racecourse.

Catterick Racecourse is the venue for the opening of the 2024/25 National Hunt Season, which is a great opportunity to take in the splendour of an authentic northern day at the races.

Spectators will be treated to seven races on the day, gates open at 10.00am with the first race commencing at 12.05pm.

Catterick has been hosting races since 1783, it remains a stalwart favourite for trainers and spectators amongst steep northern racing competitions and tradition.

A blend of the traditional and modern best describes the venue, with the old bandstand dating back to the early 20th century; a reminder of the history that has passed through those stands.

Date: 22/11/24
Time: Doors open 10.00am.

Venue: Catterick Racecourse, Catterick Bridge, Richmond DL10 7PE

Friday 22nd November: Leeds United U21 v Charlton Athletic U21

Fancy seeing some potential stars of the future? Then why not take the trip to York’s LNER Community Stadium to watch Leeds and Charlton's academies battle it out in the Premier League Cup group stage?

It's first versus second in Group H, a hotly contested affair with only a solitary point separating Charlton at the top and Birmingham in fourth. On paper Leeds are the favourites, Scott Gardner's boys sit mid-table in Premier League 2 Division 1, the league above Charlton.

However, the reverse fixture ended with a 1-1 draw so the neutral may be in store for a tighter match than first thought.

Three points for either team could be the factor that secures qualification when the group finishes in early February. It could also be the game where you can boast that you saw that wonderkid ‘first’ and that ‘you always knew he was going to be special’.

Date: 22/11/24
Time: 19.00pm

Venue: LNER Community Stadium, Kathryn Avenue, Monks Cross Dr, Huntington, York YO32 9AF

Tickets can be purchased at https://yorksmc.co.uk/buy-tickets

Adult £6, Concessions £3, U16 £3
