Emmerdale star Lisa Riley was joined by co-stars from the hit ITV soap on a 5km walk (Saturday 15th June) in support of cancer charity Maggie’s.

The actors joined people with cancer, as well as their family and friends, in Roundhay Park in Leeds to walk 5km to help raise awareness of Maggie’s Yorkshire, a centre that provides free expert psychological, emotional and practical support for anyone living with cancer.

Lisa Riley said:
“I am so glad to be supporting Maggie’s Yorkshire, it’s a fantastic charity and the support it offers is much needed. It’s been lovely to have some of my cast members here with me to support me in raising awareness of this wonderful charity as it’s a cause close to my heart.

I’d encourage anyone with cancer, or who knows or has lost someone to cancer to come to the centre. Cancer and grief can impact our lives at any time and the support that Maggie’s offers is so important.”

Maggie’s Yorkshire is situated in the grounds of St James’s University Hospital, Leeds, and opened in October 2019. It is run by professional staff including psychologists, cancer support specialists and benefits advisors who provide a free, evidence based programme of support that is proven to help people with cancer, as well as family and friends, take back control.

Sadie Munro, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Yorkshire commented:
“We are so grateful to Lisa and the cast members from Emmerdale, as well as all of our other incredible walkers for taking part in today’s Walk for Maggie’s.”

Maggie's opened its first centre in Edinburgh in 1996. All our centres are open to anyone living with cancer, as well as family and friends. No referral or appointment is needed - just come in.
