Steaming Ahead – Free Heritage Open Days North Yorks

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is taking part in a national festival celebrating England’s rich history of invention, industry and innovation, and has announced a series of free to attend Heritage Days.

The nationwide festival, dubbed ‘Heritage Open Days’, takes place from 6th-15th September and, as part of the initiative, NYMR will stage a series of exclusive events and opportunities, including some that aren’t usually available to the public.

This year, the Heritage Open Days festival will celebrate how people and ideas have moved around and come together throughout history: the transport routes, communication networks, trade unions and social clubs.

Macey Palmer, Learning & Interpretation Officer at the NYMR said:
“Heritage Open Days is a great opportunity to showcase some of the behind-the-scenes elements at our heritage railway.

“We have some favourite tours and talks returning this year and we've also opened up even more locations for people to explore and learn about our charitable aims, including our Carriage & Wagon Department and on-site Archives.”
