As the UK braces itself for a blistering heatwave this weekend, it’s important to stay safe and be aware of the risks, signs and symptoms of sun stroke.

LloydsPharmacy are here to help with top advice on what to look out for when it comes to over-indulging in the sun.

A spokesperson from LloydsPharmacy says:
“The MET Office has issued an amber weather warning for extreme heat across the UK this weekend, with temperatures potentially reaching a record high of 43 degrees, leaving millions of people at risk of sunstroke.

"As we enjoy the sunshine and spend more time outdoors, it’s important to remind ourselves of the key symptoms to look out for and stay aware."

First signs of heatstroke include:

Fever
Shortness of breath
Confusion or loss of consciousness
Fainting
Seizure
Headache
Nausea
Non-responsive

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, take action quickly to prevent serious illness. There are many methods to treat heatstroke, but it’s key to keep your body cool, stay hydrated and call 999 if you are not feeling better within 30 mins of resting in a cool place.

To avoid falling ill during the hot weather, keep hydrated and stock up on electrolytes, avoid extreme exercise and excessive alcohol consumption, keep your body temperate cool and of course, protect your skin using a strong SPF.
