Tech Giant Details Economic Impact And Job Creation Across The North
Amazon has invested over £5.1 billion in the Yorkshire and the Humber region since 2010, according to its recently updated 2025 UK Economic Impact Hub. This significant capital expenditure has driven substantial economic activity, job creation, and skills development across the North of England.
The investment figures reveal Amazon’s deep commitment to the region, including more than £2.6 billion specifically channeled into South Yorkshire since 2010.
Regional Economic Contribution
The company's investment over the last 15 years has generated widespread benefits:
GDP Contribution: Amazon’s activity has contributed an estimated £3.7 billion to the region’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) since 2010.
Job Creation: The company has created over 6,500 new full and part-time jobs across Yorkshire and the Humber since 2010. Amazon currently employs over 75,000 people across the UK and pays full-time staff a minimum of £28,000 per year.
Skills Development: Over 940 people in the region have successfully completed Amazon's career development and skills training initiatives, while around 110 apprentices have graduated through its Apprenticeship programme since 2010.
Craig Fowler, Site Leader for Amazon in Doncaster, commented on the findings: “Amazon is committed to strengthening the regional economy and supporting the broader South Yorkshire community through strategic investments, employment creation, charitable contributions and community engagement initiatives.”
UK Expansion and Future Investment
The regional investment figures follow a recent announcement detailing Amazon’s massive UK expansion plans. The US-headquartered corporation is set to invest £40 billion in the UK over the next three years (2025–2027).
This national investment includes the construction of four new fulfillment centers and new delivery stations, with the vast majority of new roles being created outside of London. This will see the creation of:
2,000 jobs at a new fulfillment centre in Hull.
2,000 jobs at a new site in Northampton.
Additional positions at new sites in the East Midlands and other delivery stations across the country.
The new roles will cover more than 60 different positions, including specialist technology jobs such as mechatronic engineers and robotics technicians.
