Technology Improvements On Key M62 Junction

Work to improve safety by installing new technology at a busy junction in Leeds will start next week.

On Monday Highways England will upgrade the existing traffic signal operating system at Tingley roundabout at junction 28 of the M62.

The project will add to the benefits of the widening scheme which was completed last year when the westbound exit slip road was extended to four lanes and the eastbound slip road to three lanes, improving access off the motorway.

The new technology being installed will help traffic flow more smoothly and will be completed by the summer.

Highways England project manager Esref Ulas said:
“By installing this new technology we will ensure traffic flows more smoothly through the junction – bringing additional benefits to drivers.

“We will be carrying out the majority of this work overnight to avoid disruption and I want to thank drivers in advance for their patience.”

The scheme is being promoted and funded by Highways England and delivered by Leeds City Council.

The work will start on Monday 23 March overnight from 8pm until 6am.

Some lane closures and closures of the M62 motorway exit slip roads will be required but these will be kept to a minimum.
