The Government’s NHS Plans Are A Trojan Horse For Privatisation, Says Jon Trickett MP

Jon Trickett MP has today criticised the Government’s White Paper, The Future of Health and Care, which rubber stamps United States style privatised care models for the UK.

The Member of Parliament for Hemsworth constituency in West Yorkshire pointed out the Government’s ‘integrated care’ plans are championed by private health providers, who have already been handed £113 billion of public money since 2010.

Mr Trickett warned that the plans to remove competition regulation will worsen the cronyism we have seen in the awarding of contracts throughout the pandemic.

The Labour MP has tabled an Early Day Motion, 17, and is asking Members of Parliament from all parties to join him in opposing the Government’s NHS privatisation plans.

Jon Trickett MP said: “The NHS is our country’s greatest achievement. Despite a decade of underfunding and creeping privatisation by the Conservative Government, it has kept millions of us safe and financially secure throughout the pandemic.

“The Government’s latest plans put the NHS up for sale to the highest bidders. This fatally undermines the founding principles of the NHS that was designed to put people’s needs before the profits of companies.

“The public understands the NHS needs reform, but the reforms people want to see involve increased funding, pay rises for our key workers and full renationalisation. It’s time the Government put the public’s health before the interests of private health care companies.”
