The King’s Arms in Hawkshead, a cherished 17th Century Lake District inn with a rich history, is set to reopen in Summer 2025 after an extensive renovation. The pub will relaunch as the traditional cosy Lakeland pub it was known as but updated throughout and boosting eight new en-suite bedrooms. Located within the stunning Lake District National Park in the quaint village of Hawkshead this quintessential freehouse will offer a hearty welcome to new and previous guests alike. The owners are now inviting passionate and dedicated key individuals to join the team for this exciting new chapter.

After a significant investment in the restoration of this listed building, the King’s Arms will celebrate the very best of local ingredients, curating a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests. Exceptional service and a memorable experience for every visitor, will be the priority.

Community and Connection

At the heart of the King’s Arms will be a relaxing atmosphere, where guests can enjoy a pint by the fire, dine with family and friends, or unwind in one of the newly designed bedrooms. The Kings, as it affectionally known, will be the place where guests will be greeted with a warm welcome and a friendly smile every time.

“We’ve always believed that the King’s Arms is more than just a pub – it’s a place where people come to gather and make memories,” said Jo McGowan, owner of the King’s Arms. “We want to carry that tradition forward, but we can’t do it without a team who shares our passion for great service, hearty food, and a cosy welcoming atmosphere. We’re looking for people who will be excited to be part of something very special.”

Our Team

The King’s Arms is currently looking for the most talented individuals to fill a variety of roles, specifically the pub’s host and manager as well as the head of food. Ideal candidates will have a passion for the Lakes, a love of great food, and a desire to lead a team that feels more like a family. With relevant experience in guest service, the King’s Arms offers a supportive and dynamic work environment where personal growth and team collaboration are at the forefront.

Wine and Dine

The menu will feature comforting pub favourites mixed with seasonal dishes. These offerings will highlight the best of the region’s local produce, celebrating the flavours of the Lake District and the changes in season. Traditional local ales, more classical pulls and world-class wines will be the heart of the drink’s selection.

“We’re working closely with local suppliers to bring the very best of the Lake District to our menu,” said Jo. “It’s important to us to support local businesses and we will showcase the best of the likes in our food.

Relax and Unwind

Classic British design is at the heart of our interiors combined with the charm and character of a 17th century inn. Original oak beams, slate floors, open fires and traditional colour schemes will create a timeless feel. Eight individually designed en-suite bedrooms will feature, comfortable beds, cotton sheets, an exhilarating shower to mention a few….showcasing local products in all our rooms.

“We’ve worked hard to preserve the heritage of the building, while making sure the King’s Arms is a place where modern comforts meet classical charm,” Jo said. “It’s important to us that guests feel at home, and that our team feels at home working here too.”
