Maple syrup, Nutella, lemon and sugar may be popular choices, but their elevated sugar levels pose a significant risk to our teeth. Dark chocolate, for instance, has been shown to combat cavities, plaque, and tooth decay.

Being mindful of syrups and their potential to stain teeth is important. Opting for protein-packed nut butters instead of syrups can protect oral health. Honey and maple syrup, while natural sugars, can still soften tooth enamel.

Research has highlighted the impact of sugar on dental health such as tooth decay and cavities, especially with pancake toppings that exceed recommended daily limits.
