Tom Grennan - Evering Road (Insanity Records)

Every now and then a new artist comes along that, when you hear their songs, you know that they are going to be around for a long time.

Such is the the feeling with the fine set of songs on display here on the second album from Tom Grennan called Evering Road. The tunes have mass broad appeal that will sit easily on Radio 2 as well as Radio 1. Much like Tom Walker and a few years further back with James Morrison these are songs that will still be played on radio in 10 years.

Take for example, 'A Little Bit of Love' - one of the singles off the album. The track builds in momentum reaching a crescendo. You can almost hear his fans singing the song back to him when he goes on tour later this year.

'If Only' gets the album off to a fine start “could you imagine if only” he sings over a production that makes the song swift and sublime.

'Something Better' rolls along with a bouncy swagger, whilst 'It Hurts', a piano driven ballad sounds like he has been doing this thing for years. Again benefitting from a sympathetic production, Grennan observes that “jealousy isn’t gonna make a man out of you”.

'This is The Place' has already been released as a single, coming with a crafty vocal hook that could have come off an old Police track.

His fame will not be limited to the UK - Germany and America will fall from the charms on offer here.

These are big songs that will not sound out of place in an arena. Funnily enough he plays Hull Arena on the tour but I’d say take the opportunity to see him in some of the smaller venues on the tour - believe me, this will be your last chance.

I rate the album 4 out of 5.
