Townhouse - A Breath Of Fresh Air For Halifax
The former Potting Shed in Halifax has had a £200,000 makeover to become Townhouse. 50 new jobs have been created in the independently run venue, boosting the local economy significantly.
Spread across four floors, I found that the new venture offers the customer something different on each floor. They appear to have got all bases covered with each floor appealing to a different type of customer.
The Basement appears to be aimed towards a younger audience, reminding me of a sports bar with the huge LED video wall screening football games. Every weekend they transform the space into a club featuring the best in local DJ talent with headline acts from across the U.K. taking over the DJ decks once a month.
The ground floor ‘Living Room' is probably the one which will appeal to the majority of customers with a varied food and cocktail menu as well as craft beers - including local brewers such as Hebden Bridge based Vocation.
The food menu is a mix of pizzas, burgers, hanging kebabs and grills, though it looks perhaps a little too heavy with at least nine different starters and six different salads on offer and seven dessert options to choose from.
I was impressed with the Margherita pizza finding it extremely cheesy with that distinctive taste that you get when a pizza is cooked in a wood burning oven. I was not so impressed though with the American burger which tasted rather bland - it was only the taste of the relish that really came through.
Servings are on the large side so I did not try a dessert.
For some early autumn sunshine the roof terrace is ideal where afternoon tea is served. A retractable roof ensures that the fun continues whatever the weather. The south facing terrace has comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere.
There is competition though with a well known chain at the side of Townhouse. The management at Townhouse though have come up with 2 for 1 offers on burgers, pizzas and 50% off promotions on kebabs and desserts depending on which day you visit from Monday to Thursday.
