Melissa Tilling founded Charitable Travel, the social enterprise travel agency, with the experience of 35 years in the industry and the vision of ensuring travel is a force for good. By offering great ATOL protected holidays, cruises, tours and more worldwide and a new way to make a real fundraising difference to the charities loved by her customers across the UK.

She is the first transgender founder of a travel company and her life experience, particularly since transition from male to female fourteen years ago she says, gave her the authenticity, drive and confidence to stand for the business principles and ethos she is passionate about, to create a completely new business concept.

Built as a social enterprise, which means every penny of surplus profit created when selling travel is donated to good causes, rather than being a regular private enterprise where the shareholder is the primary winner of the profit. The aim is to make it easy for customers to be philanthropic by simply giving a 5% money back discount on the price of their holiday and donating this to a charity of their choice through a Just Giving partnership.



Charitable Travel also has over 180 charity partners for whom the travel company helps to raise awareness of their work through their channels and during Pride Month, a time very close to Melissa’s heart, will be focusing on highlighting charities making a difference to the LGBTQ+ community.
