Almost 20% of householders never clean their washing machine, according to new data released today.

And that means Brits are regularly faced with the unnecessary cost of repairing their machine – an average of £200 per year according to experts – in the midst of the biggest cost of living crisis to hit Britain in a generation.

As the crisis surges throughout the UK, worried householders are looking for solutions to keep costs down, with most admitting that the cost of maintaining the home is an important factor, according to the new research by cleaning and laundry expert Dr. Beckmann.

The study reveals that one in 10 Brits claim that maintaining the home is an area they are worried about as prices rise across the country, alongside keeping the fridge stocked (32%) and fuelling the car (26%).

One in five (19%) of 2,000 Dr. Beckmann customers polled, confess that they don’t clean their appliances, meaning long-lasting damage occurs, resulting in a need for replacements.

According to WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment recycling), it’s estimated that every year, 2 million tonnes of household appliances are discarded across the country and end up in landfill. With large household appliances such as ovens, fridges and washing machines making up over 40% of wastage.

However, as the cost-of-living crisis continues to rise throughout the country, it’s more important than ever to ensure you don’t receive any unaccounted-for costs. Maintaining your household appliances may seem like a chore, but in reality, it can save Brits hundreds of pounds.

To help lighten the load, Dr. Beckmann’s Service-it Deep Clean Washing Machine Cleaner is specially designed to protect and help prolong the life of the machine. The appliance cleaner thoroughly cleanses the machine and eliminates 99.9% of bacteria and viruses, whilst also targeting the dirt we can’t actually see within the internal areas of the machine, leaving the appliance sparkling and hygienically clean.

On maintaining household appliances, Dr. Beckmann spokesperson, Susan Fermor said:
“Unfortunately, with the financial crisis not going away anytime soon, here at Dr. Beckmann we wanted to highlight the importance of regularly cleaning your household items to increase their longevity, resulting in you not having to splash the cash on replacing the items.

“As our results show, many Brits don’t necessarily think about deep cleaning appliances, especially the washing machine, but we’d recommend doing this once every 2 to 3 months or for every 30 washes, just to ensure bacteria and limescale doesn’t build up over time.

“And that’s not all, as our vast product range consists of a variety of dedicated products that help protect and prolong the life of household items and clothes, such as our Upholstery Stain Remover – dedicated to remove stains on upholstery furniture such as sofas. Our Glowhite, the nation’s favourite laundry whitener, also maintains the whiteness of clothing from that very first wash, preventing the fabric from greying over time.”
