Treat Your Dad This Father's Day

What is a Father?

A father is the male parent of a child. Every man can be a father but not every father can be a dad.

Some Father's Day quotes:

"Anyone can be a father, but it takes a real man to be a daddy." - Anonymous.

Some people don't believe in heroes, but they haven't met my dad - Unknown

To the world, you are a dad. To me, you are the world - Unknown

A father is someone you look up to no matter how tall you grow - Unknown

What you teach your children, you also teach their children – Unknown

Why celebrate Father's Day?

Father's Day helps both fathers, father figures and children to appreciate just how important their role is in modern society.

The song says: 'You don't know what you've got till it's gone' and for most of us we would say that is very true in regard to our fathers.

Some have perhaps not been the best they could be, but millions of others have been all and more than a father should be.

When do we celebrate Father’s Day?

Traditionally Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June although in some parts of Europe it is celebrated on the 19 March which is St Joseph's Day.

Unlike Mother’s Day, the UK and USA celebrate Father’s Day on the same day.

The History of Father's Day

Celebrating Father's Day originated in the USA in 1966 when it was formally recognised and was a civic celebration to complement Mother's Day, which was very popular.

Apparently President Lyndon B Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honouring fathers on the third Sunday in June making it known as Father’s Day.

Prior to this time it was only observed as a Catholic tradition, celebrating fatherhood dating back to the Middle Ages.

Father's Day each year is when children express thanks to their fathers or father figures for all their unconditional love and affection that has been shown to them.

Although the festival is very western, it has recently gained a following in India.

When is Father's Day 2020?

Father's Day in 2020 falls on Sunday 21 June in the UK and also lots of other countries in the world.

So set aside one day in the year, when we take time to express our thanks for our fathers and to say again we love you, for all the unconditional love that you have shown, makes the day so worthwhile.

Let's celebrate our Dads everywhere and why not treat him this Father's Day even though with the coronavirus pandemic it might be a virtual celebration.
