Turtle Bay, A Nice Time In York

If you are a fan of Bob Marley then chances are you will enjoy the music at the Turtle Bay restaurant in York.

The Jamaican and Caribbean themed restaurant in York is part of a chain that offers something a bit different from the competition. The food choices range from West Indian curries, burgers, Jerk Chicken, Buddha Bowls to fresh Roti.

Naturally they have a wide range of cocktails, mocktails, Caribbean rum, homemade soft drinks and a short wine list.

The decor is different too, it felt like a Caribbean beach bar had gatecrashed into the centre of York. Bob Marley posters hang on the walls advertising his concerts. I’m not sure if he ever played a gig in York but if he did I’m sure a poster would be hanging on the wall. A large mural of the singer is on one of the walls too.

A card is placed on your table to scan the QR code for Track and Trace. All condiments and cutlery are given to you in a bowl and you handle your drink yourself off the tray when it is brought to the table.

I intended to try the Jamaican Beef Patty to start with but it had sold out, so instead I had to make do with the rather ordinary Garlic Flatbread.

My main of Mac ‘n’ Cheese was very hot as it came with chillies, though you can choose chives instead with choices of Pulled Chicken or Jerk Bacon. It was like Mac ‘n’ Cheese had been reinvented, throughly inventive and innovative.

After a meal as hot as this you need some of the GG’s Ice Cream to cool you down. Made in Devon the choices include a very sweet Nutella Ella Ella and a Boozy Caribbean Rum, which you can add to a Banana Toffee Cheeescake.

Every day between 10am and 8pm they do a 2 for 1 on Cocktails and Mocktails and also every day from 10am to 3pm a £27.00 Bottomless Brunch.

Bob Marley was singing Could This Be Love as I left the restaurant, he might have had a point, I did love the food, the atmosphere, service and whole experience at Turtle Bay.
