Walker Morris Draws International Attention With Approach To Legal Tech

Last month, leading law firm, Walker Morris, hosted an international delegation to showcase its innovative approach to legal tech.

The delegation, organised by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), included representatives from the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and DBT itself. This included Ewan Evans from DBT, Natalya Sharp from MOJ, Lana Dolan-Rathmell from MOJ and David Yates from DBT. Visitors were given insight into Walker Morris’ unique tech-positive mindset, which underpins both client advice and internal operations.

The firm takes a hands-on approach to evaluating new tech, putting each tool through rigorous trials and assessment with its personnel to help ensure smooth integration, and that the tech meets both internal and client needs. This process is part of the award winning ‘I did that’ initiative, which encourages staff to identify smarter ways of working and helps ensure the firm invests in the right solutions. By giving everyone a voice, Walker Morris has successfully created a culture of innovation that drives more efficient working practices across the board.

Walker Morris has recently built a range of cutting-edge technologies into its workstreams, including HighQ, LMA Automate, Avvoka, and Orbital Witness CoPilot AI, significantly enhancing efficiency and introducing generative AI capabilities to the firm's operations. Working closely with a selection of clients, Walker Morris has also created bespoke client portals which enable up to date access on financial information and matter progress.

Matthew Lingard, Director at Walker Morris, said:
"We're proud to demonstrate our innovative approach to legal tech. Our collaborative method of technology procurement, involving stakeholders at all levels, ensures we adopt solutions that truly benefit our clients and our team. This visit supported an ongoing dialogue we have with the legal tech sector, which leads to positive outcomes for all involved. As both a large organisation with a sophisticated technology estate and a law firm with market leading technology practice, we were very pleased to host this delegation and continue discussions on the use of legal tech."

Walker Morris' dedication to staying ahead in legal tech is further evidenced by its specialist Technology working group and dedicated innovation team, whose focus is to keep abreast of developments in both technology and client demands. The firm is currently exploring emerging technologies such as advanced AI, court bundling, and large data storage and analysis tools, which could further enhance the seamless experience that clients receive when working with Walker Morris.
