Wellbeing Coaching Course Helps Support More People Through Pandemic

Sustaining a sense of wellbeing has taken on an unprecedented importance as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to test even the most resilient as we all strive to keep safe, well - and sane.

Our Time for Life correspondent Sharon Cain reports on an online wellbeing coaching course offered by Raw Horizons Academy which equips trainers with critical skills to boost our mental and physical wellbeing.

A new study has not surprisingly revealed that the wellbeing and mental health issues sparked by the Covid-19 epidemic could last long after the lockdown is lifted.

Experts, who include Dr Sandro Galea from Boston University, are warning that spending long periods in isolation could coincide with a rise in domestic violence and child abuse as well as depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol abuse.

The authors of the report are calling on all of us to do what we can to boost our mental health ‘reserves’ so we can draw on them through the short, medium and long term.

One way to achieve this to help ourselves - and others - is to embark on a Wellbeing Coach Training course delivered by Raw Horizons Academy which takes place in a live virtual classroom format.

Critical areas covered

Located at Split Farthing Hall in the North Yorkshire countryside near Thirsk, Raw Horizons retreat was co-founded by Australian-born Andrea Maguire and her step-daughter Dr Claire Maguire who delivers the course.

Dr Claire is transformational wellbeing coach with a PhD in medical biochemistry, an author on wellbeing, transformation and healthy eating and former breast cancer sufferer.

The accredited life coaching course is suitable for people working in a corporate environment who want to enhance their current qualifications as well as holistic practitioners seeking to complement their existing skills and those looking for a new rewarding career.

Drawing on a wide range of coaching techniques and tools, it enhances students’ understanding of wellbeing, delivers the commercial aspects of setting up and running a business - and includes practical coaching practise with fellow students.

There are no prerequisite skills required to become a wellbeing life coach - participants require the right attitude, qualities and skills which include being a good listener and communicator and being non-judgemental.
The course focuses on Dr Claire’s ‘Pillars of Wellbeing’ model encompassing how food, emotional health, vitality, vision and expression can all lead to health, happiness and success.

It teaches participants a broad range of coaching tools and strategies to understand limiting beliefs, self-sabotage, values, language, habits, reframing and attitudes to change.

Exploring the meaning of success, mindfulness meditation and relaxation, the program also covers spirituality and holistic health. The formula enables participants to become examples of wellbeing, committing to their continued self-exploration and self-development as they learn about self-nurturing, rituals, gratitude and acceptance - empowering them to better serve their clients.

Support required post crisis

Andrea Maguire highlights how the techniques the coaches learn from the program will be invaluable in helping their clients to cope in the weeks and months ahead - both during and after the lockdown.

Said Andrea: “The aim of the course is about delivering great results for your clients. The passion of coaches to empower people to live the life they desire is of utmost importance.

“We teach our coaches how to help people deal with stress and anxiety, how to cope with change and unsettling situations. All these strategies are very helpful during, and also after, this unprecedented situation.”

Accreditation

A Certificate of Wellbeing Life Coaching - recognised by The Association for Coaching - is awarded to those who successfully complete the 5 day course along with registration as a student member giving access to their wealth of database of information.

Accredited coaches can start working on completing the course and will also be invited to join the private Raw Horizons Academy Community for ongoing support and motivation.
