Come along to RSPB Old Moor near Barnsley this half term for a series of fun family events and activities. Join Mouse on his journey exploring the nature reserve and spotting dangers, take part in our toddler trail, or have a go at making your own nestbox.
Every day from Saturday 1 February - Sunday 23 February, families can take a journey around the reserve with mouse and a trail pack (complete with mouse whiskers!) follow the self-led trail to explore how to find food and a home in the wild, watch out for predators and other dangers on your journey. There are certificates and wild time badges to collect once the journey has been completed, only £2 per pack and normal admission charges apply to RSPB non-members.
There are also Wild Challenge backpacks to hire every day (£2.50 per pack), for budding nature detectives to uncover fascinating creatures. These activities contribute to the RSPB’s Wild Challenge online awards scheme, encouraging families to get closer to the natural world, completing fun, wildlife related activities, learning about nature and earning awards. There is also a free toddler trail for younger explorers to enjoy imaginary play in nature, with activities including rainbow rocks and a tea party.
Why not pop along on Wednesday 19 February from 11am to 2pm to celebrate National Nestbox Week for a nestbox making drop-in workshop, where families can make their very own nestbox to take home and put in their garden. Only £5 per nest box.
Visitors to Old Moor nature reserve can also enjoy a delicious selection of meals in the farmhouse cafe, as well as a selection of freshly made sandwiches, hot and cold drinks plus a range of snacks.
