Williams Retains Sargeant For 2024 F1 Season

22-year-old Logan Sargeant will continue to race in Formula 1 in 2024 for the Williams team, which means that the whole grid of 20 drivers will remain unchanged for at least the start of next season.

The young American has had a very mixed rookie season, but he has done enough to retain his place at motorsport’s top table and scored a single point for his British based team after finishing 10th in October’s United States Grand Prix following the disqualifications of Sir Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. This marked the first occasion that an American had scored a point in F1 for 30 years.

Referring to his new contract, Sargeant enthused:
“I am thrilled to be continuing with Williams Racing for the 2024 season. It has been an incredible journey with the team so far and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue developing as a driver within such a talented and dedicated group. We have exciting plans for the future and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success in the coming year.”

The Williams team principal James Vowles commented after signing Sargeant’s new contract:
“I am pleased to continue our journey with Logan into the 2024 season. He has demonstrated immense skill whilst under the pressure of the world stage, making him a perfect fit for our team. We have great confidence in his abilities and believe that together we can achieve even greater success in the upcoming season.”

There had been serious suggestions that Red Bull’s highly impressive reserve driver Liam Lawson might have ended up taking Sargeant’s seat at Williams, but it seems the Kiwi has perhaps preferred to remain within the Red Bull ranks in the hope that an opportunity might arise there at some stage next year and particularly if Sergio Pérez has a difficult start to the 2024 season.
