World Of Volvo Opens In Gothenburg

After almost 30 years in the Volvo Museum in Arendal, Volvo’s collection of cherished vehicles has been moved to a new home at World of Volvo. Gothenburg’s new experience centre opened on 14th April.

World of Volvo will offer an entirely new experience. Over the years, we have been welcoming some 100,000 visitors annually to the museum at Arendal and we are expecting that number to increase at the new location in the centre of Gothenburg where the vehicles will be accessible to more people.
Ulrika Sandford, Marketing & Communications Manager at World of Volvo.

The selection of vehicles at World of Volvo will vary. Visitors can look forward to viewing the Volvo P1800, Volvo 240, Volvo Duett and other vehicles when the centre opens. Two of the trucks being exhibited are the Volvo Titan and the Volvo F88.

In addition to the vehicle treasures, other aspects of Volvo's proud heritage will be displayed in the exhibition, not the least relating to the Volvo founders Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson. Visitors will be able to learn more about the history of some of Volvo’s innovations, such as the three-point safety belt, which was launched in the Volvo Amazon and the Volvo PV 544.

We are obviously extremely proud of the three-point safety belt, one of Volvo’s major safety innovations that has contributed greatly to making roads safer for everyone. In addition to enabling visitors to explore iconic gems and discover more about Volvo’s innovations and ambitions, World of Volvo offers a look into the future of mobility and transport.
Magnus Wrahme, CEO of World of Volvo.

In addition to the exhibition, World of Volvo will be hosting cultural events, concerts and talks, with the capacity to accommodate up to 1,100 guests. It also offers facilities for conferences and events. World of Volvo opens its doors on 14 April 2024.

The new Volvo 240 was unveiled in 1974. After testing and comparing cars in the same size category, the US traffic safety authority NHTSA declared that the 240 provided car occupants with the best protection and thereafter used the 240 as a benchmark for safety standards.

The Volvo Duett launched the tradition of Volvo as a maker of estate cars. The Duett came into being when Assar Gabrielsson decided that Volvo should build “its own multi-purpose vehicle.

World of Volvo is an experience centre based in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a focus on the human body and mind, how we all are connected, and the design thinking of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Temporary and permanent exhibitions, cultural events, talks, conferences, food and drinks with a Nordic touch, will all be accommodated in the 22,000 m² building. World of Volvo is a joint venture between Volvo Group and Volvo Cars, opening in April 2024.
