Yorkshire gin producer Raisthorpe Manor is celebrating after winning four coveted awards for its fruit gins, fruit gin liqueur and Yorkshire tonic at this year’s hotly-contested Great Taste Awards.

Out of 12,772 products from over 100 different countries, Raisthorpe was awarded two 2-star awards for its Rose and Sloe Gins while its Raspberry Gin Liqueur won a 1-star award.

Raisthorpe’s Pink Grapefruit Tonic – one of its new Yorkshire Tonics range - was awarded a 2-star award.

Receiving a 2-star Great Taste Award means judges considered a product to be above and beyond delicious.

Receiving a 1-star award means the product is ‘simply delicious and delivers fantastic flavour’.

The largest and most trusted accreditation scheme for fine food and drink, the Great Taste Awards provide a benchmark of quality for artisan food producers. The awards value taste above all else, with no regard for branding and packaging.

Of the products entered into the awards this year, 208 have been awarded a 3-star, 1,326 received a 2-star and 3,409 were awarded a 1-star accolade.

The Great Taste Award judges had some glowing comments for Raisthorpe’s drinks including:

Rose Gin (2 stars)

“A delicately coloured product - very subtly done. On the palate well balanced pepper with floral, violet notes present from the rose extract. Pared with a quality tonic this would made a delicious summer drink to be enjoyed sitting in the shade in the rose garden in 25 degrees! This gin tastes elegant and well made. “

Sloe Gin (2 stars)

“A lovely looking serve, clean and smooth. Sharp, smooth and long on the palate. Judges REALLY liked this - to the point where we even thought of sneaking out the bottle - NB we didn't! Congratulations on a really enjoyable sloe gin.”

Raspberry Gin Liqueur (1 star)

“Nice, lingering, fresh raspberry flavours - the palate delivers amply on the promise of the aroma. Fantastic claret red colour with an enticing raspberry jam aroma. A formidable raspberry tour de force. Like stepping through the fruit canes on a summer's day.”

Yorkshire Tonics Pink Grapefruit Tonic (2 stars)

“Very drinkable on its own with one judge saying this is like summer in a glass. This is a very welcome departure from the standard elderflower solution to the mocktail. This adult soft drink would work well both as mixer, and on its own, and has enough of a crisp grapefruit finish to really satisfy thirst.”

More than 500 experts, comprising chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers, came together at 65 judging days between March to July this year to give honest and impartial feedback.

Julia Medforth, founder of Raisthorpe Manor, said: “We’re delighted that our products have gained these highly respected accolades against some really tough, UK-wide competition. This endorsement means that consumers can be confident that our products really do taste great and we encourage them to come and sample them at one of the many shows we are attending over the summer.”

Raisthorpe Manor has been producing award-winning gin, vodka and whisky from its base at Wharram, near Malton in the Yorkshire Wolds since 2008. Raisthorpe products are made using only the finest (locally sourced where possible) ingredients and have previously won 12 Great Taste Awards. Two of its liqueurs are currently stocked in the cocktail bars of Harvey Nichols nationwide.

Raisthorpe Manor’s other products include ports, chocolates, hampers and gifts which are available from independent retailers throughout the country and online at www.raisthorpemanor.com
