Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Hosts Food Festival Celebrating Local Yorkshire Suppliers

Join Yorkshire Wildlife Trust on Saturday 31st August for a celebration of fantastic Yorkshire food in the enchanting surroundings of Stirley nature reserve near Huddersfield.

The Trust is hosting their highly popular annual food festival with more stalls than ever before – including artisan foods, pickles, jams and honey, hot street food stalls selling pizza and Malaysian food, and locally-produced ciders, beers and gin.

There will also be cooking demonstrations, pick your own activities, sessions with Huddersfield Astronomy Society, and live soul and blues music - guaranteeing fun for all the family.

Set in the stunning surroundings of Stirley nature reserve, with its picturesque views, orchards, meadows and grasslands which are a haven for wildlife, the festival offers plenty of opportunity to get out and about and explore the beautiful reserve. Once a dairy farm, and now with a community growing project and an active group of volunteers caring for the reserve, the location is also the ideal place to host an event focused on supporting tasty products grown locally and supplied by local businesses and producers.

Stephanie Turner, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Inspiring People Office for Stirley, said:
“We are delighted to host this day-long celebration of the very best of Yorkshire’s foodie scene – no matter what your appetite is for, we’ve got a food stall for you!

“With foraging walks, cooking demonstrations, and the pick of our reserve veg patch – not to mention stargazing sessions and live music – this promises to be a fantastic value day out for everyone.”

The event will run from 10:30am to 4:30pm, with parking opening from 10am, and will take place indoors in the Trust’s atmospheric barn. Both the carpark and the barn are accessible for wheelchairs. Entry to the Food Festival is free, although donations to the Trust are gratefully received. More information on accessibility at the event and on the reserve can be found at https://www.ywt.org.uk/events/2024-08-31-stirley-food-festival.
