Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Is Right To Criticise HS2, Say Greens

"We welcome the announcement from the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust on their grave reservations to the proposed HS2 high speed rail link," comments Clr Andrew Cooper, of Yorkshire & Humber Green Party.

"HS2 is planned to cut right through Yorkshire and the Trust is right to highlight the disruption to the countryside which it will mean - in particular the threat to Water Haigh Woodland Park, near Leeds - which it cuts in half - and the serious impact on Woodhouse Washlands, near Sheffield.

"Like the Greens, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust questions the so-called economic benefits too," Andrew Cooper continues, "Of all the things to spend a likely £80 billion on, getting to London a bit faster is not the highest priority."
