Young Artists To Take Centre Stage At Ferens Junior Open
Hundreds of talented young artists will be showcased this weekend at the Ferens Junior Open.
The annual Junior Open, taking place online for the first time, launches on Friday 12 February on the Humber Museums Partnership website.
The Digital Junior Open will celebrate the creativity of children and young people throughout 2020. The exhibition won’t be about prizes, instead it’s all about celebrating and championing children’s creativity in the face of the pandemic.
The Digital Junior Open replaces the postponed 2020 Junior Open exhibition that was set to take place at Ferens Art Gallery last year.
The 2021 Junior Open exhibition is set to take place on-site at Ferens Art Gallery in November 2021, and will be an even bigger celebration of talent than the usual exhibition.
Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, chair of Hull Culture and Leisure, said:
“As we all know, 2020 was a terribly difficult year that saw many of our plans and much-loved events cancelled. What the pandemic could not put a stop to however is the tremendous artistic talent that we have in our region, so I’m delighted that we will once again be able to showcase our young artists as part of this digital exhibition.
“Children and young people have experienced a year like no other, and we want to be able to showcase their work, whether it be by reflecting on their experiences of these unprecedented times or by simply using the exhibition to express their creative talents.”
More than 150 artworks have been submitted, including local landscapes, self-portraits, paintings of pets, clay dinosaurs and wildlife photography.
Artworks have been submitted by individuals, schools and local community groups, aged 15 and under.
The exhibition can be viewed on www.humbermuseums.com
from Friday 12 February. Ferens Art Gallery will also be sharing some of the amazing artworks on social media.
