The dream of Bradford Odeon becoming a live music venue drew another step closer this week, when Bradford Council agreed "in principle" to provide a 12 million loan to support the redevelopment of the former Odeon.

Other funding options are being looked at too with the Odeon bid being chosen by the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership as its preferred project to receive a share of up to £4 million from the Government's Northern Cultural Regeneration Fund.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority last year agreed to put £325,000 towards the scheme, which will now be granted following the announcement that the NEC group will operate the live venue and put £2 million towards the work.

The revamp of the former cinema, which will cost £20 Million, is being overseen by Bradford Live.

The 4,000 seat venue would become the North's premier mid sized concert venue.

The venue is due to open in 2020.
