18 year old British racing driver Lando Norris has fulfilled his dream following today’s announcement by the McLaren team that he will be racing for them in Formula 1 next year in place of the Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne.

This follows on from McLaren’s recent revelation that Carlos Sainz will be replacing fellow Spaniard Fernando Alonso at the Woking based team with effect from the 2019 season too.

Norris is the current McLaren reserve driver and has gained F1 experience with the team during testing this year and Friday practice sessions at the last two Grand Prix in Belgium and Italy. He is second at the moment in this year’s Formula 2 championship behind fellow young British F1 hopeful George Russell who is linked to the Mercedes team.

An understandably delighted Norris commented “Although I’ve been part of the team for a while now, this is a special moment, one I could only hope would become reality”. McLaren CEO Zak Brown also revealed how highly they rate their young driver and that they were unwilling to risk him joining a rival outfit, adding “Lando is an integral part of our plan for rebuilding our F1 operation for the future and he has already developed a strong relationship with the team”.
