Back To School Campaign Receives Hundreds Of Donations
A 'Back to School' initiative set up by Meadowhall has received hundreds of donations to help lower income families with their back to school spending.
The aim of the activity was to collect "end of the year" school uniforms and shoes at a special drop in post within Meadowhall on August 19th/20th. Hundreds of items were pledged from families and schools in the area; generous donations included school shoes, polo shirts, skirts and trousers, as well as gym kits.
Alex Caley, Events Manager at Meadowhall said: "We're overwhelmed with the generosity of parents, families and schools in the local area. September can often be an expensive month for many families as the cost of uniforms, new school shoes, PE kits, school bags and lunch boxes soon adds up.
"We're delighted that Richard Oduah, Mohammed Abdo, and Majeedah Khan from Tinsley Meadows school have given up some of their precious time to help us sort through and bag up all these amazing donations."
The uniforms will be distributed between two local schools, Hinde House Primary School and Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy, with the aim of helping families on very low incomes, kit out their children for school.
Emma Farmer, from the Five Rivers Multi Academy Trust which covers Tinsley Meadows and Abbeyfield primary schools added: "These compassionate community initiatives are invaluable. We're extremely thankful for the uniform and we're confident it will get much use."
