Manhattan 'Til Midnight - Marcos's New York Italian, Sheffield

A new twist on the dining experience is Manhattan 'til Midnight that takes place from 7pm to midnight on the last Friday and Saturday of the month at Marco's New York Italian in Sheffield.

In the past the restaurant could have been easily overlooked, apart from the regular customers and those guests staying at the hotel above the restaurant. The signage outside was not easily seen. New signage has been installed with the neon "casual, Italian American dining" signs being hard not to miss.

If you see the name Marco Pierre White the assumption is that the restaurant will be expensive and the food potions small - nothing could be further from the truth.

For £30.00 per person each guest receives a glass of Prosecco on arrival, followed by a 3 course dinner with half a bottle of wine per person, the meal being rounded off with a cocktail. Amazing value, all served in an inviting, relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere.

The soundtrack to the evening is provided by Chloe Rose Fisher who sings songs that you are familiar with but turned into a jazz style, whose repertoire ranges from John Legend to Rick Astley to Bon Jovi - all sung as jazz standards. She seems a natural and the perfect accompaniment to some fine dining.

Garlic bread

I chose the Garlic bread as a starter - I was not expecting for the serving to be so big - it covered the whole of a large plate. Tasty and filling it could have easily been shared between two people.

My partner went for the Crab balls with tomato salsa which were said to be excellent and not fatty at all. Other starters on offer were BBQ Pork Ribs and also NYC Vodka Arrabbiata.

For my main course the Manhattan burger came with sweet potato fries. The burger itself was of a good quality stacked with Nduja, a large onion ring, Monterey Jack cheese and pancetta. You certainly knew you were not dining at a fast food joint as this burger was sublime.

My partner went for the Chilli spiced popcorn cod served with a cabbage, carrot and lime salad. For one reason or another the batter on the cod was not as crispy as was expected, perhaps the fat it had been cooked in was not hot enough? Still enjoyable - you could ask for the dish to be cooked to your preference.

The Whole roasted American beer can chicken seemed to be popular amongst our fellow diners, served with fries, red cabbage slaw and corn on the cob, this main course for 2 people looked delicious.

Cookie icecream stack

To finish I chose the Cookie icecream stack, which is basically icecream sandwiched between two very large cookie biscuits. Some of the regular pizza restaurants have this but I felt Marco's version was bigger and tastier. If you have a sweet tooth then this one is for you.

My partner decided upon the Rocky Road cheesecake which again was a substantial serving. It must have been good as nothing was left on the plate.

Whether you wish to celebrate in style or a casual dining experience then Manhattan 'til Midnight ticks all the boxes - with good service, good music and exceptional value.

Throughout December Manhattan 'til Midnight will also be held on a Thursday night as well as Friday and Saturday.
