Review: Pullman Hotel, Liverpool

The Pullman brand is the 4 star chain of the Accor Hotel Group. The brand is well represented in Europe but in the UK so far, the only one being in London. That is until now for the first one to open outside the capital is in Liverpool.

Situated in Kings Dock and right next door to the Echo Arena (great if you are going to a concert) and is connected to the ACC Liverpool (great if you are going to a conference). The hotel does not have its own car park, instead you can use the multi storey located alongside the hotel which costs £11.20 for 24 hours which is with the discount that the hotel offers to guests. If you arrive by train it would be too far to walk from Liverpool Lime Street so a taxi would be needed, but if arriving by bus the Liverpool 1 bus station is a 5 minute walk away.

I have stayed in the Pullman hotel in Bucharest and was very impressed with the service, cleanliness and the hotel in general and wondered if this level would be replicated in the UK. I am glad to say that it has.

It was pleasing to be welcomed on reception (I use the term reception loosely as you are checked in on iPads whilst you are seated in a comfy chair) with a member of the team having a Liverpudlian accent. It made a change to the well rehearsed, monochrome welcome you sometimes get from staff at hotels. You certainly knew you were in Liverpool and not Ljubljana!

The Superior room had superb views on one side of the Mersey and the Pier Head on the other. The King Size bed was very comfortable and the 55 inch TV had all the channels you could wish for including Sky Sports. I must admit that I was disappointed with the laminate floor, because of the colouring, was easily marked. The free Wi Fi had excellent download speeds of 54mb.

There was a fridge with 2 bottles of complimentary sparking water which I thought might have been better having a bottle of still and one of sparking instead of two the same; however reception soon fixed this along with some biscuits that were missing from the tea and coffee tray in the room. There was an iPad too in the room and a docking station for your iPhone.

The bathroom was well appointed with good toiletries and a powerful rain shower. The floor tiling though had very small tiles and could be difficult to clean.

Buffet style breakfast

Breakfast was a huge spread with continental and English breakfast being buffet style. The food as you would expect was top quality. The staff on duty in the restaurant looked novel in their uniforms and caps, which were meant to resemble Liverpool dockers, not chimney sweeps as another guest thought. It was another attention to detail which sums up the Pullman in Liverpool.

A well run, friendly, clean and top class hotel.
