Team Of Biathletes Notch Up Success At National Schools Championships
Young biathletes from Harrogate Belmont Grosvenor School notched up their greatest success yet when they competed in the British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships.
A total of 11 athletes from the school travelled to London to take part in the event, which sees thousands of children from schools up and down the country compete in individual and team races.
It was the largest number of pupils from the school, that has ever qualified for the national biathlon event since the school first began competing four years ago.
Throughout the weekend, pupils ran 800m and swam 50m at Crystal Palace in London. All came away with personal bests while the boys' team took 8th position - the first time the school had ever had a team placed in the national competition.
Swimming co-ordinator Nick Wield, who runs the school's biathlon club, said he was delighted with the childrens' success.
"To have 11 of our pupils qualify for this event was a tremendous achievement and we are extremely proud of every child who took part in the British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships.
"All the competitors achieved personal bests in both the run and the swim - and our boys' team was placed 8th in the competition, the first time we have ever had a team placed.
"All their hard work training - in the pool and running has paid off - a massive congratulations to everyone," he said.
