York Monks Cross Travelodge Gets The First Festive Room In The UK

It is a simple idea and it has probably been done before but is a first for Yorkshire. The newly opened Travelodge at Monks Cross in York (it only opened in late November) has the only Travelodge Festive Room in the country.

Situated on the top floor of the hotel the room (there is only the one) has been themed for Christmas: there is a specially commissioned painting behind the bed of Father Christmas by Luke McDonnell. Luke is a self-taught artist, graphic designer and illustrator and has produced murals around the world under the name 'Chiba Creative'.

Sheepskin rugs lie by the side of the famous Kingsize, Travelodge Dreamer Bed and in the corner of the room is a large Christmas tree even decorated with fairy lights!

Keeping in the festive spirit there is a jar of marshmallows and a poinsettia on the writing desk. Hot mince pies are served to you in the room upon arrival too.

Surprisingly the cost of the room is the same price as the mainstream rooms. When I visited the Christmas room it had just the one bed in it, but there is space to put a single bed in there to make it into a family room.

The room seemed very homely and cosy and it felt like you had stepped into a private bedroom not part of a hotel.

Reservations for the festive room can be made right up to and including 6 January 2019.

Probably the best way to make sure that you reserve the room successfully would be to call the Central Reservations Centre on 0800 4080797, as when you look at the Monks Cross Travelodge on the website no mention is made about reserving the Festive Room.

Children will love it I'm sure, but also if you wanted to surprise your other half it would be worth it just to see the look on their face when you open up the hotel room door.

The Monks Cross Shopping Complex is literally on your doorstep at the hotel and a regular bus service runs into York City Centre from Monks Cross.
