5 Ways To Keep The Magic Of Christmas Alive Without Santa

The countdown to Santa's arrival is on. But unfortunately (whisper it) kids don’t believe forever… Whilst we all wish the magic of believing might continue indefinitely, inevitably the time comes when we find out that Santa might not be real.

A new survey from Getting Personal has revealed that most kids stop believing in Santa at age 10. This varies slightly between genders with girls finding out a little later age 10 ¼ vs boys who usually stop believing at age 9 ½.

When the inevitable happens it might feel like the magic has fizzled out, however, to keep the Christmas spirit alive, Scott Eyton, from the company has come up with 5 festive activities that won’t remind you of the man in question.

Create a Christmas Eve box

If you don’t have a stocking to look forward to, then a Christmas Eve box might be the perfect alternative, creating a magical prelude to the main event. Set the stage for a snug Christmas Eve with a pair of new pyjamas, a book, a personalised ornament, some festive snacks like gingerbread cookies or a chocolate orange and maybe a game or puzzle, as entertainment for the whole family as the night unfolds.

Organise a themed scavenger hunt

Get into the festive spirit by playing some games with friends and family. A themed scavenger hunt can be a fun idea to get everyone involved. Why not hide candy canes around the house or garden, each with a clue attached to it? Or have participants solve puzzles and perform tasks related to classic Christmas songs to find the next clue using song lyrics as hints for the hiding locations.

Set up a hot cocoa station

No Christmas evening is complete without some yummy hot drinks, in fact, you might want to have the supplies ready to go throughout December. Create a hot chocolate station with a pick and mix of marshmallows, cream, chocolate, sprinkles and all your favourite mugs.

Donate some presents

One of the best parts of finding out about Santa is being able to recreate the magic for others. Bring some joy into other children's lives by donating some gifts to charities supporting those in need. The likes of Action for Children, Salvation Army, Refuge and many supermarkets have gift donation initiatives.

Enjoy a movie marathon (best films that don’t involve Santa)

There is nothing like getting cosy with some Christmas films. However, if you are still recovering from finding out about Santa, you might want to avoid films without him in. Harry Potter, A Christmas Carol and It’s a Wonderful Life are all great options to get you in the festive spirit. Now, where’s the popcorn?
