A Special Gold Sovereign Tribute To The Life Of Service And Devotion Of Queen Elizabeth II

The life and devoted service of the late Queen Elizabeth II have been celebrated in a set of limited-edition commemorative gold sovereigns created by UK coin specialists Hattons of London.

The 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Tribute Gold Sovereign Range pays tribute to the remarkable reign of Queen Elizabeth II - the longest in British history.

Designed by Jody Clark, designer of the final portrait of Her Late Majesty that appears on Britain’s current coinage - the coins feature a new portrait of The Queen, created especially for this tribute collection.

The front of the coin depicts Her Late Majesty in the tiara and necklace of her wedding day, and wearing a brooch gifted to her by her late husband HRH Prince Philip. This portrait will only ever be used on this series of tribute sovereigns.

On the reverse of the coin, the Imperial State Crown, which was worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation, and to the State Opening of Parliament most years rests upon a rose, thistle, shamrock, and leek to symbolise the four nations of the United Kingdom. It is a prominent symbol of the duties she carried out for more than 70 years.

And in a wonderful show of support, Hattons of London have agreed to give 10% of all net profits on sales to the Armed Forces charity, which Queen Elizabeth II was dedicated Patron of, SSAFA - the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Airmen’s and Families Association - which provides lifelong support for members of the Forces and their families.

Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 in Balmoral at the age of 96.

Simon Mellinger, Hattons of London Managing Director, said:
“On behalf of everyone at Hattons of London, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to all members of the Royal Family at this incredibly sad time.

“Her Late Majesty has been part of our lives for such a long time that it almost seemed that she may have continued reigning forever. Of course, this is not possible, and we are now faced with the hard reality of that truth.

“One thing that has surprised most people during this is the immense show of respect for Her Late Majesty and her sense of duty. Even those who proclaim themselves as non-Royalists have acknowledged her unwavering sense of service and devotion to the British people.

“This collection symbolises our nation’s collective gratitude for what was an incredible 70 years of service to the British people.

“We also feel that it’s a fitting tribute to her, particularly as the net profits from the sales go to support SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity - a charity which Queen Elizabeth II supported from the very start of her reign, taking her father’s place as Patron upon his death in 1952.

“In recent years, even when Her Late Majesty was reducing her workload, she remained as Patron of SSAFA, actively supporting their work and retaining a keen interest in the people and families they helped.

“All purchases from the 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Tribute Gold Sovereign series will contribute to the work of SSAFA, and ensure the continuation of their crucial work in providing welfare and wellbeing assistance to our Forces and their families continue.”

Authorised by Tristan Da Cunha and approved by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and Buckingham Palace, the range is a fitting tribute to the life of service and devotion of Queen Elizabeth II.

The 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Tribute Gold Sovereign Range is now available, with prices starting at £69, but only until 28 February 2023, after which the price will be £149, subject to availability. For more information, visit: www.hattonsoflondon.co.uk
